A place to grow and flourish…

In 1992, Sojourner House pioneered supportive housing in upstate New York with the opening of its Monica Place Complex, the first supportive housing project of its kind in New York State. The Supportive Housing Network of New York (SHNNY) honored Sojourner House with its Project of the Year Award for its Monica Place apartments.

Today, Sojourner House’s recognized Supportive Housing Program operates three apartment complexes

  • Monica Place,
  • Fairchild Place
  • Nancy Watson Dean Place

that provide 40 units of supportive housing. The families residing in these apartments are graduates of its Transitional Housing Program, as well as self referrals or referrals from other social service agencies. More often an evolutionary process than a forced rule, families live there for up to four years before moving into safe, affordable housing in the community.

The women living in Sojourner House supportive housing apartments work hard every day toward their personal goals related to economic self-sufficiency, family stability, and maintaining their sobriety. Sojourner House’s Supportive Housing Program provides on-site case management, enforced accountability, including apartment inspections and drug testing, community with other women, and educational and enrichment opportunities for the children through its Dreamseeds children’s program, as well special events and celebrations at Sojourner House to help them thrive and create new lives for themselves. Many go on to earn college degrees, advance in a self-chosen career, and become first-time homebuyers.

Supportive housing applications are available at the front desk of Sojourner House (30 Millbank Street) during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
